I was really surprised to see that Citrix will be added to the S&P 500. Can anyone think of a similarly pure-play company that was added to the index when its product was in such a relatively early stage of adoption?

That's one I have been struggling with as well, Mike. What are the criteria for a stock to be added (or removed) from the S&P 500? I think we can ascertain that rules of the technology adoption life cycle are not part of the formula used when stocks are added to or removed from the S&P 500. Even though we Gorilla Gamers would like that to be part of our consideration. Is it sheer market cap, regardless of the company? Do they attempt to have a blend/mix of companies from all sectors within the S&P? If so, did Citrix fit into that formula? I wonder what it replaces or what is being removed?

Enough questions. I don't have the answer, but if anyone knows the criteria for inclusion in the S&P 500 - shout it out. In the meantime, I'll buzz on through cyber space to look for an answer.

Merlin, NTAP was added to S&P 500 early in its adoption stage. I cannot formulate any implications. It does seem that NTAP's share price became less volatile, but that is not a substantiated statement.
