Very interesting ED. I might add for those who try to follow what Ed posted that initially I couldn't get it to work when I typed HWINFO/UI. I took a closer look at Ed's post and noticed a space between the "O" and the forward slash. When I included that space, I was in business.

Be sure you have that little '/UI' switch in there or this won't work.

It's stuff like this I can never seem to remember.

In Explorer, find the file HWINFO.EXE and right-click it. Create a shortcut. Highlight the newly created shortcut and right-click it (the shortcut) and select properties. In the 'Target' box, you'll see a full pathname. Append the '/UI' onto this pathname and click the Apply button.

Move this shortcut to your Start menu tree and you'll be able to run this utility without spending any brainpower on remembering parameters. Life's now easy!

Cheers, PW.

P.S. If there's an award for Ugliest Icon, this utility should be a finalist if not the outright winner. You may wish to change it. Right-click, choose Properties, Shortcut tab, and Change Icon button.
