Ganesh on eVentures in India on TMF board

Don't know anything about India, but Ganesh, a big softbank afficionado, posts on the TMF board, and there are some interesting posts re ISPs in India.

This is relevant to Softbank investors, as Softbank also has a joint venture recently announced in that country.

Hi, Yamakita-san,
A small, or maybe not so small correction. The Indian
company, SIFY is the second largest internet provider in India, not the first. The government owned ISP is much larger. When they privatize I suppose some rich group like
Tata will buy it.
Anyway, you are ahead in the stock; that's fine. I myself am somehow not tempted. OT: CTSH looks to me like the
best buy in an Indian software company.
Good luck.

Yamakita,
You cannot really compare SIFY with Infosys. SIFY is
but a subsidiary of an entity called Satyam. Satyam is
very similar to Infosys and Satyam will be listed soon
on the Nasadaq. Internet access in India is virgin
territory and SIFY started out about 3 years ago. The
Govermental entity called VSNL is the largest ISP by
far and I see them being the largest for a very very
long time.

Wife has copy of their B-plan that is midway down my 'to read' pile. Glancing page flipping resulted in followings randomly sampled words ... business to business electronic commerce ... private network services ... consumer access services ... etc. Will look at the chart tonight when market opens. Seems a good diversification move, even in i-net world. Of course, as you noted, everything depends on execution. But we may not have to stick around that long to see a probable +50%. Generally suspicious of India.
