BSES Q2 net up 56% to Rs 52cr

BSES Ltd has recorded a 56 per cent jump in net profits to Rs 51.72 crore ($12 mil) for the second quarter ended September 30, '99, from Rs 33.07 crore recorded during the corresponding period last year, reports Our Mumbai Bureau.

Net profit for the first 6 months of the current financial year jumped 25 per cent to Rs 139.33 crore ($32 mil) as against Rs 111.73 crore during the corresponding period last year.

Total income for the first six months rose 10 per cent to Rs 1,264 crore ($289 mil), up from Rs 1,149 crore for the corresponding period last year. "The EPC division is growing tremendously, and has contributed largely to the total income of the company. This division will continue to do well as the order book is over Rs 1,000 crore ($289 mil)," said RV Shahi, chairman and managing director.

Gross profit (PBDT) for the first six months of 1999-2000 has increased to Rs 282 crore from Rs 233 crore during the corresponding period last year. Interest and other finance charges declined to Rs 46.81 crore from Rs 62,67 crore on account of pre-payment of loans.

A company release said the earnings per share (EPS) rose to Rs 20.24 (annualised), up from Rs 18.89 as of March 31, 1999.
