Correction, my observation would be true if Douglas ultimately wants to purchase the stock by exercising the option, say, when the stock is at 50 prior to expiration date. His total cost would be about $39.50. However, his call options should become worth more than he paid for them at anything above $35 near term, hence he could unload them at a profit prior to the stock achieving $39.5(35+4.5) for a very good %profit indeed. :-) For instance, if the stock goes to 38 soon his options might be worth a couple(?) bucks more than the $4.5 he paid for them.
