Hmm, that E* box might just include a CODEC!!

Home Theater Magazine, page 85
Review: Echostar DishPlayer Receiver/WebTV Plus settop box

An exact quote as found on page 88, in the review.

"Another plus is the pause functions, which allows you to stop incoming video for a half hour and resume it from where you stopped. The receiver routes the video to the WebTV's hard drive via an MPEG-2 encoder/decoder that's much like a TiVo or ReplayTV, although video is only recorded on the hard drive when the unit is paused. This preserves picture quality, but there's about a one second delay. With a bit more software, this unit could morph pretty easily into a video server that would let you watch recorded video on your TV. In fact, EchoStar plans a software upgrade before year's end that will allow about six hours of video recording time."

I would sure like to hear a comment from any Cubie that has any more details than this.

Looks like you may have lucked into another real discovery. Grrr.

This is what I received from my broker - "HLIT agreed to buy the Divicom subsidiary of Cube for 1.46 billion in stock. In a parallel transaction, cube plans to spin off or sell its remaining semiconductor operations upon the close of the Harmoinic deal, ending cubes existence as a sepaaraate public company." (from the Wall Street Journal) Told me good luck - don't think he knows what is going on.

The amount of the deal changes every thing I read - I think you are right - hopefully - this was a weekend for getting educated.

Sunshine:)
