<That's what Intel should have done up front rather than shoving Rambus down everyone's throat.> Your assumption being that IBM, GATEWAY, DELL, HP, COMPAQ, etc. etc.... are a power less that Intel. What these companies have done & will continue to do is make lots of money for their shareholders and expand the market place. If they choose to do so using Rambus, I assure you it will be for reasons of self-interest & not some absurd notion that Intel made them do it. I assure you, that the power of money is much much greater that Intel.
