Pervasive Software Unveils Web Applications Strategy

AUSTIN, Texas -- Pervasive Software Inc. (PVSW) unveiled details of a strategy to capitalize on new business opportunities in the wireless Web computing market.

In a press release Friday, the database software maker said its "Applications Everywhere" strategy includes four areas of investment over the next four quarters: An electronic-business alliance program to unite Web application developers with Web integrators; a telemarketing call center to recruit Web application developers and provide sales and technical assistance; a brand awareness campaign; and accelerated delivery of new features in its Tango 2000 and Pervasive.SQL 2000 software.

Shares of Pervasive closed Friday at 9 3/4, down 5/16, or 3.1%, on Nasdaq volume of 614,300 shares. Average daily volume is 394,293 shares.

After trading above 36 as recently as Oct. 21, the stock fell 24 1/16, or 66.7%, to 12 last Friday after the company released lukewarm first quarter results and told analysts it planned to increase spending in the next four quarters to support Tango 2000.
