At first glance it sounds implausible. However, 3Com does have lots of cash (more than $2.5 billion in cash and investments), and evolving its Palm PDA to a PDA that can also double as a mobile phone does make sense.

It doesnt really make sense when you consider the fact that 3Com has already announced that they will be spinning off the Palm Division. They supposedly want to concentrate on networking again (doesnt make sense to me...but that's what the CEO said). If they did buy it, they would most likely package it with their Palm division and spin both off.

I will say that the synergies are pretty interesting....

yes but COMS wants to sell the palm division. Why buying Q's handset divisions, when they want to spin off the palm division?
