Hi ww,

The AETH scalp goes well, the Armenian gets a mention from time to time and now to the heart of the matter.

Silkroad. To wit, I have always had a slight unease when it comes to trying to follow managements that have too complicated a tale to tell the world. Citrix comes to mind in this regard. As does Silkroad. I had the pleasure the other day to have a long chat with a Lightwave engineer, working for a very exciting new private company in 2nd round funding (i.e. some real money thinks these guys are on to something). This PhD. finally turned the light on for me regarding SR, at least to the extent that it has been to this point. To wit, this fellow thinks the world of the SR marketing department...... and not much about the possibilities that this crew will get beyond lame, gimmicky demonstrations, where the seven veils are tightly held, and demonstated prowess has been less than revolutionary to date. I remain partial to those from the "Show Me" state (of mind). I haven't got the very latest figures, but the 47km demonstration in San Diego county announced 9/1/99 ran at 568Mbps. This rates a definite snore. Earlier breathless pronouncements from the company were claiming terabit transmission rates. We have orders of magnitude to go here. As the LambdaWavInGiNear sed, pedestrian product.

Best, Ray
