<<Virtual Gold Research, the Internet-based research and consulting group, comments on the continued buoyancy of the US jewellery market and improvement in UK demand. The fact that 22-carat items are growing in popularity reflects the growing size and wealth of British Asians. >>

It's not just British Asians or simply British. There is a growing segment of the educated American WASP based market which is moving toward better gold. A custom jeweler I know has enjoyed a halv dozen women in the last month ordering pieces made "with that pretty Asain gold color" which drives an explanation on his part of what makes that color. He also tells me the folks of middle eastern extraction are returning to his business(from higher oil prices) & are buying 20-22k items only. A neighbor of the Wicken(sp?) faith tells me most which follow this religion also demand ONLY jewelry in the 20-22k ranges & she has been "investing" in a gold ring every month for the past two years.
