E: You and Jane are getting me in the mood to visit New York. It's about 5 or 6 years since I was last out there. I had a client right in Manhattan. They'd usually put me up at the Harley, which was just around the corner from their offices. Nice place. I love that city. Never rode the subway, though. I remember one time I was in the ladies room at the client's office. This woman came in, took one look at me and said You're not going outside like that, are you? I had no idea what she meant, as she must have sensed from my expression as I was wondering if half of my suit had somehow become detached or something. Instead, she was looking at my jewelry, and a gold necklace I was wearing in particular. She said, They'll rip that right off your neck. I wore gloves and a scarf when I left the building.....<g> M
