Bilow - <Hi Process Boy; Maybe I'm misunderstanding the question, but I think that what he's asking is whether or not the 12" equipment can be made to process 8" wafers. That way, you could upgrade the equipment piecemeal, while letting 8" wafers flow through the system.>

Oh. I don't know about that one. That doesn't sound like something I'd want to try, or have reason to, for that matter.

Why would you want to upgrade to expensive 12" equipment just to put 8" material through it, not to mention the process of qualing it for 8", and turning right around and having to do it again for 12"?

It would be interesting to know the what's and how's of AMD vs. 300mm, seeing as how they only have limited fab resources. I would think they have an outline of a plan.

That sounds silly. If the line is for 12", it will be for 12" all the way through. Using 12" equipment and qualifying it for 8" wafers is a huge waist.

As they stop wafers starts at 8", they start the upgrade as the wafers go through the system. So after the wafers clear the litho, they start replacing the steppers.

As it has already been mentioned, there are huge, fundamental differences between the 12" and 8". There will be no mix and match the equipment in the line.
