Sudan Produces 10,304,869 Barrels Of Oil In Year 1999: Minister

Khartoum, Nov. 1 (SUNA)- Minister of Energy and Mining Dr. Awad Ahmed Al-Jaz announced that the oil production at all the fields in the country has reached 10,304,869 barrels in the current year 1999.

This came in a statement he made Monday before the National Assembly, chaired by the Speaker Dr. Hassan Abdalla Al-Turabi.

He said that the productivity of Hejelij and Wohda oil fields till last October reached 10,110,374 barrels.

Dr. Al-Jaz indicated that around six million barrels of oil had been exported till now, adding that some 450,000 barrels were sent to Al-Obeid Refinery.

Meanwhile, the minister said that the plan of his ministry for the year 2000 includes attraction of investments in the fields of oil exploration and production and the accompanying industries, besides intensifying the oil exploration and production at all sectors toward increasing the oil reserves.

Dr. Al-Jaz announced that six tonnes of gold had been exported by Ariab Mining Company in the current year 1999.

He said that the policies of his ministry in the geological and mining fields also include expansion of the gold exploration projects and signing agreements in this connection.

Work has been intensified in the field of gold and basic minerals' exploration at Bayouda Desert and North Kordofan State, he said.

The minister indicated that the Ministry of Energy and Mining witnessed recently unprecedented investments in the mining domain, adding that a number of agreement had been signed with foreign and local companies for minerals' exploration.
