Thanks Windsock for your outline.

I would assume if AMD and VIA had violated the P6 architecture in reference to the Athlon processor, Intel wouldn't hesitate to approach AMD? The VIA KX133 does not violate the P6 rules?

Now to learn about the EV6 bus....

Windsock - < On the surface, Intel is seeking to prevent the use of its patented technology by Via. One reason for the suits is that Intel wants to obtain a payment for use of its protected technology. >

Big, bad ol' Intel, trying to protect and otherwise receive fair compensation for its Intellectual Property like that! How dare they!!! [How do you indicate dripping sarcasm?].

Anyway, I believe you've hit the nail on the head. All this stuff about Intel trying to scare mobo makers into not making K7 boards by threatening to enforce their patents will not come out in the wash, IMHO. I suppose it does make good fodder for the conspiracy theorists.
