briand:

Much discussion has existed on this board since I first started frequenting it back in June when I first got into CMTO. No one has yet to provide a reasonable explanation other than that TERN is more effective in marketing itself to the investment community than CMTO. I find this explanation, if true, to be a message to management to improve upon how it communicates to the Street. But first it must address the certification issue.

Your response implies that you equate the difference in market cap with the failure of CMTO to receive CableLab certification. Why do you think this is the case? Certification is but one component of a modem manufacturer's strategy to grow sales of modems among the purchasing public. It is not the Holy Grail. However, for CMTO at this point in time, it very well could be.

You state that "management has focused on growing the company." While this may be true, in the eyes of many investors it may not entirely true since many view Certification has one pillar upon which to grow revenues. Because management has "taken its eyes off the ball" with respect to 1.0 Certification, many investors will argue that management has not focused its attention on growing the company in the proper area.

Sure, the CMTO modem holds great technical promise with respect to 1.1 Certification, but this is a race the cable modem manufacturers are in. Each quarter a manufacturer's modem is missing from the store shelves or the "approved list" of franchised MSOs, there is lost opportunity. IMHO, we're are at a point where it is critical not to lose any ground against competing modem manufacturers.

Finally, briand, I think you missed the underlying discussion going on here. Many institutions & money managers that have purchased this stock on behalf of clients are extremely disappointed & displeased with management. If you think just by receiving Certification this time around that it is going to dramatically change their views of management, then you I think you might want to revisit your understanding of how the Street values technology companies. Management is important. To shift attention away from CMTO's problems & compare its market valuation is TERN, while helpful, is no consolation to many investors who have been "burned" by CMTO management's oversights.
