Here's what I can remember:

On competition:
VRSN is the leader and the innovator, plans to stay there.

On profitability:
VRSN has always planned to be a very profitable company (...good) but the quiet point that SS made was that for a CA to be successful it not only has to do the job it has to be viable. Otherwise trust can't be instilled (will the company still be around...etc).

He mentioned some major 'name' customers that impress:
the Fed (I think), FBI, etc...working the trust/security angle.

SS was asked about what VRSN can do about all the account/passwords that we have to deal with. He responded that the 'Holy Grail' of digital ids is the ewallet concept that would solve that, hopes to get there someday.

He mentioed transaction insurance, transactions receipts (for vendor and customer) as possible new products coming down the line. My comment: Does anyone else think cybercash might be a target for VRSN?

Like Pat said, SS believes they're just at the beginning of market penetration and there's a lot of opportunity for VRSN in the future.

I'll see if I can get an actual transcript if anyone's interested.

Regards,
- Jer
