Depends on the size and quality. If you are talking South Sea Island pearls, the large, dark ones, each pearl costs thousands. A strand of good akoya pearls (cultured Japanese ones, the round, smooth ones), say 24 inches, 7 1/2 millimeter, that's a couple of thousand or more, depending on the quality. But you can get one without much nacre for a few hundred.
