Makes sense.

<<,Exactly! My B movie training tells me the same thing. One or both knew too much for their own good. The authorities caught one or the other "red" handed in an unrelated scheme. In order to avoid major time one or the other perhaps both, rolled over and decided to cooperate on another investigation. They sensed their danger so one sent his wife and kid away, the other decided to stay away from his home so that his wife and kids would not be in as much danger. The murder is intended to be a warning to others to keep their mouth shut. One of the news stories suggests they may have been wounded and questioned before they were killed. The killers may have wanted to know what information was provided to the authorities>>

If they sensed danger then how did they wind up in the dining room unprotected. No dogs, no locks. Wouldn't they have gone to a motel to hole up? They must have know whoever shot them because they must have let them in.

And why drive to Tennessee to charter a plane to Florida?
What in the world is in Tennessee besides Fort KNOX!!!

Whoa.. there is a thought. They are goldbugs.
These seem to be whitebread guys who would want a stewardess to wait on them.

This wasn't revenge or an act of passion. They needed to get information out of them. A location, code, safety deposit key...

The caliber of the gun may be a small clue to the killer(s). I don't know about now but a long time ago it was a custom of the mob to use a 22 caliber (for close up hits) loaded with shorts . There were several reasons for this. Much less noise and since the bullet didn't have the force behind it that a larger caliber has it tended to mushroom more and do the job quite sufficiently. The mob didn't really hate any of the people it killed it was mostly just business. The larger the caliber the less professional you can probably figure the killer to be. For example if this was the Russian mob it was probably about a 38 caliber, if it was a disgruntled investor it may have been a 44 magnum. If someone like Riley or Pugs were to go after JS it would be something like a bazooka.

I also think the bulldogs may have known what was going on beforehand and ran off. If the victims were worried about someone coming after them they would have gotten more dogs.

Nah! Think you got it wrong Tom. HERE IS THE INSIDE POOP from hawkeye's sources at the Jack Lalane Spa for Bulldogs.

Lehmann uncover new scheme by Chalem to bilk stockplayers. At same time, Chalem discover new scheme by Lehmann to bilk stockplayers. Lehmann decide to turn Chalem over to feds in return for half of Lehmann's take on deal. Chalem, decide to turn Chalem over to feds. for half of Lehmann's take on deal. Unbeknownst to Chalem, Kimberly Scalora is secret informer for L.A.P.D. on case investigating links between small-cap brokerage house in Paramus and Russian auto mechanic in Beverly Hills. Kimberly tell Lehmann that Chalem has turned him in. Kimberly tell Chalem that Lehmann has turned him in. Following me?? OK. Now here is interesting part. Unbeknownst to Kimberly, gardener at the Candella estate is great-great grandson of Rasputin with connections to the worldwide Russian underwear industry. He make anonymous gift of Russian underwear to Kimberly. Lehmann find out about secret gift of Russian underwear to Kimberly. Lehmann suspect gift of secret Russian underwear to Kimberly is from Chalem. On pretext of needing help carrying empty suitcase to old car for trip to airport for big meeting with mob in Chicago, Lehmann arrange for Chelam to come to house late at night. Also tell Chalem to bring all of FBI sting money for trip. When he arrive, Lehmann ask Chalem to phone airport to confirm reservations. While Chalem is making call, Lehmann pull-out from suitcase trusty old custom 12-shot derringer. Still following me?? OK. Here is key part of story. Kimberly IS still in the house. She smell rat when Lehmann tell her to go to Ft L. to pick-up shirts that Lehmann left there after Superbowl party. Folowing this?? OK, here is romantic part of story. Kimberly have tiny secret crush on Chalem because great-great grandson of Rasputin tell Kimberly that gift of secret Russian underwear was from Chalem , so she too believed that gift of secret Russian underwear was from Chelam. Kimberly's love for Chelam so deep that she not want to see him get shot in back of head while on phone talking to Delta Frequent Flyer Agent. To stop Lehmann from shooting Chelam, Kimberly call Lehmann on cell phone. When Lehmann answer, she tell him that Chalem tell FBI that the Lehmann wears ladies Russian underwear and that Lehmann is big sissy, afraid to play Russian roulette while standing on his head!! No need to detail rest of story. Kimberly take all of FBI sting money, place 12-shot gun in mouth of pet bulldog (specially trained by L.A P.D. to return all crime-scene evidence to Rockingham estate of O.J.S.), and both were last seen headed west.

This is just speculation on my part, of course.

Don't think so. If they'd really been in fear of their lives, it was very stupid of 'em to be in such an isolated place to begin with. It was also stupid to leave the gate open and to let the killers enter the house. And if they'd really been worried I don't doubt they'd also have been armed.
