in actuality, msft has no more an option problem than sun.com does. they are just more VISIBLE. you are correct, this guy has been around for years, and like twister, nobody pays him much attention. And for good reason, I might add. That's just it. What's the 'good reason' nobody pays attention? Putting aside that JDN thinks it's kosher as long as it's GAAP and Alan Greenspan doesn't start making phone calls about it, The Economist paid attention to it enough to 'feature' it.
