I'm not sure about TAPI being COM based but I do think Msft see's TAPI as the family jewels when it comes to ISV influence. I would be surprised if there is an existing "legal" port to Unix without some sort of significant Microsoft control. Still it's confusing and a search of the web site provides no insight.

I agree that server based PBX's and IP telephony in general will be a huge market. COMS is one of several companies that have product but by no means has a lead. Finally, there is no doubt in my mind that Microsoft will consume telephony applications into the OS - the way they consumed the browser into the OS. Micrsoft will likely build some sort of small "all in one" business server.
