Intel Sues Taiwan's FIC for Using Via's Chipsets, EDN Says Taipei, Nov. 2 (Bloomberg) -- Intel Corp., the world's biggest chipmaker, filed suit against Taiwan's First International Inc. for using Via Technologies Inc.'s computer chipsets, which the U.S. company said infringe its patents, the Economic Daily News reported. Hsu Chien, an FIC spokesman, said the suit won't have any impact on his company as FIC will seek to resolve the situation with Intel as soon as possible, the paper said. FIC now buys more than 70 percent of its chipset requirements from Intel, and only 10 percent from Via, Hsu said. In June, Intel sued Taipei-based Via, a close rival of Intel in the chipset market, in U.S. courts, saying Via stole chipset patents and technologies while it was licensed as a contractor by Intel. Chipsets are components on a computer's main printed circuit board that manages the flow of information between the processor and other chips.
