Amy and Intel Investors - Level One to roll out HDSL chipset solution

level1.com

SACRAMENTO, Calif.– November 1, 1999 – Level One Communications, Inc., an Intel company and a leader in HDSL2 technology, is now providing the rapidly growing DSL market with production volumes of its 2.3W HDSL2 chipset.

Based on the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) HDSL2 data communications standard developed by Level One and other telecommunications leaders, the SK70740/41/42 includes an HDSL2 analog front end, transceiver and FEC/framer in a single chipset. It has been designed into next-generation equipment from worldwide telecom systems leaders such as Alcatel, ADC Telecommunications, PairGain Technologies and Teltrend Inc. First silicon was delivered to early adopters in October 1998, and samples were provided to the entire market in April 1999.

"Our HDSL2 chipset program is right on schedule, with low power production volumes now available and a strong engineering program which will yield more highly integrated and lower power devices as we move forward," said Mike Ricci, vice president Telecom Business Unit. "We have concentrated our efforts on developing the standard by working closely with leading system developers to help assure interoperability, reliability, and delivery of quality silicon, and this is paying off for our customers."

Ricci added that the Level One HDSL2 chipset has been designed with a high level of flexibility so that it can be easily configured to specifications for high speed data transmission now being defined by the European Telecommunications Standard Institute (ETSI) and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) for worldwide markets. Additionally, the chipset will support 2B1Q line code used in the 2-pair HDSL solution.

Pricing and Availability

The 2.3W version of the SK70740/41/42 is each packaged in a 64-pin quad flat pack (QFP). The chipset is priced at less than $40.00 (U.S.) for high volume OEM quantities.
