What enables the 840 to support a Memory Expansion Module which allows multiple RIMMs to be connected to a single RIMM slot on the motherboard?

Why can't the 820 also support the Memory Expansion Module?

There isn't a whole lot of discussion on this thread about the Memory Expansion Module, but could it be the answer for the expansion limitations of the revised two-slot 820 motherboard?
