I think this will be one of the new "hot sectors" in 2000 and will begin to track a few of these, especially i2Technologies, Ariba, and Peregrine Systems. I can't agree more. Perhaps a distinction needs to be made from the outset, that these investments and discussion of them might be more appropriate on Teflon's thread. i2 and Ariba have been in discussion somewhat on that thread, but I don't seem to recall Peregrine Systems being mentioned yet. i2 seemingly has become a powerful double edged sword investment. For all practical purposes which I have stated before, the niche SCM space dominance and momentum clearly seems to be in i2's favor - IMO of course. However, the telegraphed transformation that management implemented beginning last year to include the eWorld (wasn't that Apple's failed ISP?) seems to be the other edge of this sword in terms of an investment. If this is true, and others are in agreement of this view - how do we and where do we discuss this investment? I suppose the same could be said for all of the enterprise application software vendors as the eWorld side of things transforms everyone's business. In terms of timing this transformation, some have been caught flat footed while others - like i2 - seemed to have slipped into the party in the right ball gown at the right time. That is, they seem to have been able to enjoy a few pre-party shots of hootch with the royal trumpet players before any royalty showed up to the dance and were announced. It's always good to make friends with the musicians if you want everyone to dance to your music. I would be interested to hear other's thoughts on how, if we are going to continue to participate in the game, we need to divide it up or choose where the most appropriate place for discussion will be.
