Gateway's price for adding 128MBt of SDRAM vs RDRAM are $260 and $360. So RDRAM modules cost an extra $100 or about 38.5% extra. If looked at from a total system cost with a base price of $2000, the increase is about 5%. Now its up to the consumer to decide if its worth an extra 5% for a Rambus PC. This differential will likely shrink as Micron and others enter mass production, so the higher price of Rambus may become a minimal issue 6 months to a year from now.
