November 02, 1999 04:24 Mattel to spin off majority of Web venture - WSJ NEW YORK, Nov 2 (Reuters) - Mattel Inc. plans to spin off a majority stake in one of the ventures of its Learning Co. subsidiary, a genealogy Web site, the Wall Street Journal said. Mattel and its partners in Genealogy.com are expected to announce Tuesday they are investing $37.5 million in initial funding into the venture, the Journal said. The partners are Hearst Corp., A&E Television Networks, Thomas H. Lee Partners and Weston Presidio Capital, the Journal said. Mattel will keep a minority stake in the business, the paper said.
