But didn't McGinn also say that there will be no layoffs, when he announced the restructuring of LU in four core businesses?

I believe he said there weren't going to be any massive layoffs like the ones being speculated about in the media. He also said they were still hiring to keep up with their expanding business, which I assume means only that they're getting rid of people in poorly-performing or slow business areas and hiring people in those growing areas that need more staff. Sounds like a good strategy to me.

If McGinn wants 50% of the business from foreign markets, there must some sort of employee-rebalancing. I know European firms that have 95% of their market abroad but most of its people is in the home country HQ. You can't just import people into the US since this is an immigration issue and engineers are being put in the same category as rock starts, ballerinas or tennis players. So the jobs must be done locally where the market is.

SAM, What he actually said in regards to the enterprise space was that there would be major changes ahead. He did not say that there would be no layoffs. Brian

Wrong, he said there will be no massive layoffs.
