Not that I am aware of, except that indirectly the first study did that. Since I buy the proposed mechanism of action, I believe it would. The second study will clear that up indirectly, I think.

Your specific question is harder to quantify than starting from ground zero. That actually is precisely why the first study is so compelling to me, despite what have been criticized as flaws (using symptoms only to define a cold rather than a known infection at a known time with a known amount of a known agent). Frankly, if the p value had been toward the .o5 level I would not have been impressed or found it compelling but at < 0.001, I found it so.
