an attempt to keep the stock lower? Just a small conjecture. These brokers have some clients who want to get out of CPQ. They have also loaned shares to short sellers. The solution - find some more of their own clients to sell the shares to so they don't have to ask for the short sellers shares back. The phones are probably ringing to every small client saying "This is the time to get into Compaq". TP
