WSJ says GM unveils push to wire its cars to the Internet

The Wall St. Journal reports in its Wednesday edition that General Motors Corp. is planning a big new push to wire its cars to the Internet, making the hardware needed for Web connections standard on many models. The centrepiece of GM's Web plans is a version of its three-year-old Onstar system, which combines a car phone and global positioning-system equipment to offer drivers emergency help and basic travel information. Unveiling its Web push at a trade show Tuesday evening, GM said Onstar will offer basic Internet features in cars some time next year. Though Onstar has just 70,000 subscribers, GM wants one million users by the end of next year and plans to add twice that number annually hereafter. For GM, the Web offers the promise of a holy grail that manufacturing companies all over the world are chasing: turning its one-time customers into buyers of long-term services, with predictable monthly revenue streams. Onstar, which costs $695 if bought separately, uses a built-in voice-activated car phone. The driver just presses a button to connect.

I agree with your points, Robert. I can only imagine the sales figures from GTE, given their millions of subscribers. Will be nice to see them!

Hello Robert.....

Glad to see KNSC moving again...What makes me pleased is to see the price move up when earnings are coming due..Not sure what to expect, as Mail Call is tooooooo early, and the company has not even begun to market it!!!

Meanwhile, this one is a holder, and on dips, a great buy!! I have been holding and buying here and there since $.75.....Am hearing that earnings may not be up to expectations, due to MailCall being so very new to the market....that's ok with me, because the company has been reporting for quite a while, and reporting "positively".....So, it may take some time for MailCall to catch up..Butttttttt, when it does..look out....Meanwhile, with earnings due very soon, something good must be going on to warrant an increase in the stock price...!!!!But, earnings whispers, are just hearsay at this moment in time......

Take care
