The 2 guys that show up and discover the bodies...my sense is that they were supposed to be ther earlier than 1:00 AM, right? You'd think so. Here's a possibility: Conkling and Mr X planned to visit Chalem and Lehmann and spend the night. Originally they were scheduled to arrive at around nine. But when they called at 7:30 to confirm, Chalem said he was expecting someone else shortly, so would they hold off, and call back, say, in about an hour to learn whether the coast was clear. They called again at 8:30. No answer. Kept trying; still no answer. Didn't know what to do, so they did nothing. Finally they became worried and decided to go see what was going on. The question is: where were Conkling and X during this period? Still either in Fort Lee working, or at Conkling's house in Pequannock, or somewhere else? Makes a difference to how long it'd take 'em to get to Colts Neck.
