More meta-web: Bandwidth marketplace: pooling, peering

---------
5/99 ... In a bold move, Enron Communications (Portland, Ore.) has begun rallying telecom and Internet service providers behind the creation of a new commodities market for bandwidth -- hoping to do what its $30 billion parent, Enron Corp., helped do for the electricity and natural gas industries several years ago.

Jumping into the telecom market, Enron is now building an international network through Internet Protocol (IP)-based leased lines and new IP links of its own. The company began service over part of that network this month.

Story ... techweb.com
Company ... enron.net

The Bandwidth Commodity Start Kit makes some interesting reading.

They call it a commodities trading market for bandwidth ... looks like some special focus on edge connections ... esp. DSL.

Automated bandwidth management is another step (like automating caching management) in the evolution of the meta-web.
