To those of you who are curious about Southern Baptists:

A wife is to submit herself graciously to the servant leadership of her husband even as the church willingly submits to the headship of Christ. She, being in the image of God as is her husband and thus equal to him, has the God-given responsibility to respect her husband and to serve as his helper in managing the household and nurturing the next generation.

Maxine Hanks, an excommunicated Mormon and feminist author, told reporters that "This notion of women being submissive to male authority is terribly out of balance and it prevents these churches from evolving into the enlightened Christian ideal they claim."

"We've already believed that women's place is in the home, and certainly, in the house of the Lord, she has no place
pastoring."
Among the messages were "Women have no authority" and
"Working women equal moral corruption; working mothers equal child abuse." Julie Pennington-Russell, who will become that first female senior pastor in any Baptist church in Texas, is moving from San Francisco where people are a bit more tolerant.

"Convert the Jews," "Convert the Mormons," and "Hate Disney."
Most American Christian churches abandoned conversion efforts after WWII and the Southern Baptists are the
only ones to have officially taken it up again. "Jesus is the only way of salvation, for all men, regardless."
The Disney Corporation also received its share of hate and opposition during the convention. The focus of the Southern Baptists' ire is the corporate practice of extending health insurance to homosexual partners of employees and of hosting homosexual and lesbian groups at amusement parks.
Evidently, Southern Baptists are upset because of certain PBS programming, including one about a woman who wanted to be ordained as a Baptist minister and which put the church in a negative light and Bill Moyers productions which
portray the leadership as "right-wing." (Right: they're actually quite liberal)

One resolution called upon Clinton's home church (he is a Southern Baptist) to discipline him narrowly failed - and those who supported it were incensed at the failure. Other prominent Southern Baptists in Washington D.C. include
Vice President Al Gore, Rep. Newt Gingrich and Sen. Trent Lott. Gore and Clinton have already made it clear that they do not share the reactionary values given voice at the convention, but the others have not yet commented

The beauty of Hindu religion is that every theme is conveyed by philosophical discourses and the same theme is explained to the man on the street by way of stories.

I have always been of the opinion that Hinduism is a way of life and not a religion.

Their brains are selectively unreceptive to foreign religious concepts

But they have no problem accepting immaculate concept-ion (vbg.
