Hi Stefaan

induced labor is usually done not for the mother's safety but for the doctor's convenience, since they can't wait around for long on a particular patient.

I'm sure a lot of the women go along with it so they can be more comfortable, but there are serious questions as to possible long term bad effects on the baby, both of the drugs getting into his system and of the "premature" and unnaturally intense contractions.

There is increasing disagreement among both professionals (and the public) about the need for so many C-sections, - I think I read 30%+ births this way, do you happen to know? - who believe doctors are too quick to rush into this approach. The % could probably be drastically reduced without increased risk to mother or child.

The Leboyer method (giving birth underwater, low lights, gentle handling of the child, etc.) is a much better way to have an almost pain-free delivery, very little use of any drugs, and with the least possible stress on both the child and the mother.
