I made sure to cover SCF/XLA well in advance of the AKAM ipo. I believe part of XLA's run is in sympathy to AKAM's performance. I started my XLA short later then Pluvia and made out OK, about 5 points. In retrospect, it was hardly worth the risk.

In this crazy market I'm extremely reluctant to short anything. GOTO, ASKJ, KIDE, PPRO, there's a long list of stuff I'd like to sell, but I just don't have the stones!!

Peapod reported a third-quarter loss that was nearly twice as large as analysts expected. The online grocer (PPOD:news, msgs) posted a net loss of $9.4 million, or 53 cents per share,compared with a net loss of $5.1 million, or 30 cents, in the same quarter last year. Analysts surveyed by First Call expected Peapod to lose 28 cents. The stock closed up 1 9/16, or 15 percent, at 12 3/16. It slipped to 10 5/16 on the Island ECN.
