The biometric gun niche . . . This niche is so difficult to achieve technically, given the environment of a firing weapon, and so small economically, that I don't hold out any hope for it as a market. No biometric company has been developing anything for guns, even though the State of Maryland looks like it is going to at least try to require owner-specific smart guns. There are other ways to try to do this besides biometrics, by the way. The payoff is definitely not worth the investment for a private company. The social value is great . . . but IDX won't be involved anytime soon at all.

JL, The guns work off of a wrist band....sending a signal. The user needs to make sure that the gun is in the correct hand. Cops hate them. People would keep the wrist band strapped on the gun. Also....pull some charting on IDX......we are in a slow, steady decline. A history of COMDEX shows IDX spikes....and good quick ones, also. Watch for the first good solid 1/4 point gain from IDX. I will bring out a cigar with one...good 1/4 point gain. We have not had such a day in weeks. Today would be just fine. IDX does tend to turn and run.......and we may have a big turn and a big run this time.....if the "ballroom" is full of names. Keep in mind that COMDEX is for companies to show off their new products AND their future products. (prototypes) The MasterCard/Multos/Identicator smart card application last year that won an award at CTST.....was not a product that was for sale....or in use. It was a demonstration of future technology. bg
