Thanks, Ray. I recall the spin at the time as being dually pro telco. One the one hand, they claimed that the head end architecture was not conducive to switched services. Secondly, the scaling of such a switched (on demand from some hierarchical archive cluster) service was more favorable and more cost effective over twisted pair copper than using a broadcast cable facility.

Then again, some of this recall on my part may only be from the Telecomm Forum on Compuserve where some bellheads voiced their opinions while countering the claims of the Antec guys at the time. Anywho, let's get ready for lower-bit rate digital video channels, and streaming video over ip, which is undoubtedly headed this way, too The question once again becomes one of an optimal delivery scheme, and allowing access to would-be competitors over the franchised facility. Or via some bypass method. Frank
