The affordable PC and the Internet haven't caused anyone to say "IBM .. who's that?" They're a far bigger player than most people realize.

There is no similarity between IBM and Goldman-Sachs. One sells commodities (computers, software, support services) and the other is a service provider (investment banking). Why do you think SSB, Schwab and Merrill Lynch are now becoming on-line brokerages? It's not because they want to, it's because they are in heated competition for every dollar. Goldman- Sachs can't hope to protect it's dominance in the IPO market when it charges exorbitant (outrageous?) margins for being a big name. Russell H. knew this and that's why we are here today.
