<k>Breaking News on VIA-S3 KH Yeap</k>
Tuesday, November 02, 1999 (04:17 PM Pacific Standard Time)

Digitimes Taiwan has followed up with an interesting report on the S3 and VIA joint-venture. Basically the two has agreed to form a new company named S3-VIA, Inc. by the end of the year, with 51% of the company owned by S3 and 49% owned by VIA. S3-VIA will focus on integrated chipset solutions for both desktop and mobile PCs, and the first product to come out from this new company will be the Savage NB chipset, with ETA set for early 2000. With this new company, VIA hopes to avoid further legal obstructions from Intel in production of slot-1/socket-370 motherboards.

Also mentioned in the report is VIA's reiteration of close cooperation with AMD. VIA's President Chen is quoted as saying that VIA aims to grab 90% of the K7chipset market in 2000. Chen added that according to AMD's roadmap, there will be 20 million K7 shipped in year 2000, and VIA expects to ship 18 million K7 chipsets. The rest of the 2million chipsets will be made up by chipsets fromAMD (Irongate), ALI and SiS.

VIA's K7 chipset, KX133, reportedly will go into volume production soon and will start shipping to motherboard makers by Q1 2000.

20M Athlons in the year 2000!!! About 18% WWCPU market!!!

Can the ramp be 2M-Q1, 4M-Q2, 6M-Q3, and 8M-Q4. If yes, care to guess Athlon revenues/quarter.

"reportedly will go into volume production soon and will
start shipping to motherboard makers by Q1 2000." - does this mean KX133 will be shipped in Q4'99?
