Why do you think most carriers would prefer a heterogeneous solution?

The simplest reason of all is that when something goes wrong, they know who to call. Other reasons are compatibility testing is more or less a given (companies always test against there own gear first, then CSCO <g>). Cost leverage in some cases.

The move is toward a one stop shop. I know NN will debate this until the bitter end, but its a fact of life. Even though CSCO products might be heterogenuous no further down than the nameplates on the gear (OK, I guess IOS is pretty pervasive), its CSCO and only CSCO that needs to be called in time of crisis.
