Kemble,

Good article!

I think that there is a good probability that more than big player will be exiting the PC market. There is a huge amount of pressure on CPQ, HWP as well as IBM in segments of the PC market. To take losses quarter after quarter and have no means to recover in the marketplace is folly.

I think HWP will also retrench its losing positions and concentrate on its core competencies. Packard Bell should have gotten out of the business a long time ago.

DELL may end up growing by large increments as these companies retrench.

Incidently, the AXE for DELL is currently Michael Kwatinetz
at Credit Suisse First Boston according to Individual Investor. He is bullish on DELL and discounts the Y2K scare, the Asian weakness and is very pleased with DELL's "beyond the box" expansion of its business. He believes that DELL deserves its PE based on its growth rate and future prospects.
