Michael - Re; "Intel's Coppermine release signals new-product blitz .."

Thanks - that's one of the better articles on the Coppermine/i840 launch.

Michael, re: "AMD, Sunnyvale, Calif., remains a notch behind Intel, even with its introduction of a 700-MHz Athlon. The new chip is available for $699, while the 650- and 600-MHz Athlons are priced at $519 and $419, respectively."

I have to wonder how many people will spend, my estimate, $2000 to $3000 for a computer powered by an AMD processor. Performance aside, it would be like paying Mercedes Benz prices for a Ford. No matter how great a car Ford makes, I don't think the brand is positioned to command the premium price point.

My guess is that the $2K+ purchaser will want the Intel Inside nameplate, even if the end products are equal.
