Petakh Tikva, Israel, Nov. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Gilat Satellite
Networks Ltd.'s shares are poised to rise on speculation the
Israeli maker of satellite equipment is in talks to be acquired,
analysts said.

Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz reported that Microsoft Corp.,
the world's biggest software maker, is in talks to acquire
Gilat, citing unidentified sources close to Gilat. Microsoft and
Gilat officials declined to comment.

Analysts said that Microsoft is unlikely to buy a whole
company that provides services and equipment when that's not its
core business. At the same time, they said, Gilat may be in
takeover talks with other partners, or that Microsoft may be
interested in acquiring a stake in the company.
``People will be asking whether Gilat's in talks, and that
might get the stock moving,' said Jonathan Half, an analyst at
Warburg Dillon Read Inc. ``Maybe part of the story is true.'

In August, Ha'aretz reported that Gilat and Microsoft were
mulling forming a joint venture to provide fast Internet
services via satellite, a venture aimed at competing with a
similar venture by America Online Inc. and General Motors
Corp.'s Hughes Electronics Corp. Those talks, which haven't been
confirmed, developed into acquisition talks, Ha'aretz said.
