CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 2, 1999--

Packeteer Announces Agreements With Citrix, Compaq, InfoVista,
Portal, and Alliance With Hewlett-Packard to Bring Managed
Applications Solutions to ASPs; New AppVantage Product and
Partnerships Spearhead Packeteer's ASP Initiative

Packeteer, Inc. (Nasdaq:PKTR), a leading provider of application
performance management systems, today announced technology and service
integration agreements with Citrix Systems, Inc., (Nasdaq:CTXS),
Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ), InfoVista and Portal(R)
Software Inc., (Nasdaq:PRSF), and a technology alliance with
Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HWP), as part of its ASP (application
service provider) Initiative to bring comprehensive managed
applications solutions to ASPs.
Packeteer's ASP Initiative is focused on providing networked
applications infrastructure for ASPs and consists of the new
AppVantage(TM) system, also announced today, and the technology and
service integration partnership agreements needed to offer complete
customer solutions (Editor's note: see release dated today, "Packeteer
Announces Industry's First Policy-Based Application Subscriber
Management System for ASPs"). Packeteer is building on its success
with service provider and enterprise solutions to expand into the ASP
market, enabling new business models and revenue opportunities for
ASPs.
Under the terms of the technology and service integration
agreements, Packeteer is working with these companies to build new
services enabled by the AppVantage application subscriber management
system. Leading ASP application vendors such as Great Plains
(Nasdaq:GPSI), Onyx Software (Nasdaq:ONXS) and SalesLogix
(Nasdaq:SLGX) are working with Packeteer to ensure that their
applications are automatically recognized within a hosted environment
that is enabled by the AppVantage system. ASPs such as FutureLink
Corp. (OTC BB:FTLK) and ESOFT Global plan to start trials with the
AppVantage system in Q4, 1999.
AppVantage is the industry's first policy-based application
subscriber management system for the rapidly growing ASP market. The
new system enables ASPs to ensure the performance of the applications
that they are hosting. It also validates and presents reports that
show that ASPs are meeting their obligations to their customers;
provides a 'point of demarcation' that clearly delineates the ASP's
responsibilities and the customer's responsibilities; and integrates
billing.
"The ASP market represents the intersection of Packeteer's
enterprise and service provider businesses," said Craig Elliott,
president and CEO of Packeteer. "As customers shift from internal to
external hosted environments, their requirements for secure, measured
and performance-assured applications remain the same. Our ASP
Initiative builds upon our experience in making business-critical
applications perform across the Internet and enterprise WANs and
applies it to the challenge of delivering scalable, managed
application services."

Technology and Service Integration Agreements and Solutions

Packeteer has signed technology and service integration
agreements with solution vendors and service integrators to build
additional services on the AppVantage platform.

Citrix Systems, Inc. -- Packeteer has teamed with Citrix, global
leader in application-server software, to enable AppVantage to support
application services delivered across Citrix server-based computing
environments and web-based architectures. As a result of Packeteer's
technology integration with Citrix, ASPs can use AppVantage to set-up
separate policy classes to monitor and control published applications
on Citrix servers. By ensuring that the AppVantage classification
engine can identify applications running on the Citrix platform, ASPs
can offer better control of application performance over the network.
"To succeed in this new market, ASPs must be able to ensure
predictable performance of hosted applications," said Chris Phoenix,
vice president and general manager, Citrix iBusiness Unit. "Citrix
application-server software is a core enabling technology for
application hosting that delivers high performance regardless of
bandwidth constraints. Our agreement with Packeteer enables ASPs to
maximize service levels for their end customers."

Compaq Computer Corporation -- Today's announcement also includes
a partnership agreement with Compaq, one of the world's leading
systems and service integrators, as part of Packeteer's comprehensive
application services management solution for ASPs. Compaq has signed
with Packeteer to provide distribution and systems integration
services to ASPs and will sell professional services based on the
AppVantage platform. In addition, Compaq will resell and/or integrate
jointly created turnkey QoS-based solutions for application hosting
environments.
"Packeteer's technologies are excellent tools to develop QoS and
enable SLA's for customers for business critical applications and
eBus/eComm applications," said Robert Daigneault, vice president of
eInfrastructure Professional Services at Compaq.

Hewlett-Packard Company -- There are two facets to Packeteer's
alliance with HP, a leading global provider of computing and imaging
solutions and services for business and home. Packeteer and
Hewlett-Packard's OpenView Business Unit will integrate the AppVantage
platform with the OpenView PolicyXpert solution. This solution
eliminates the need for multiple network configuration products by
enabling central, policy-based provisioning and administration of the
ASP's heterogeneous environment.
"Integrating OpenView PolicyXpert with the AppVantage product
line enhances an ASP's ability to quickly and cost-effectively
provision, control and ensure the performance of a broad range of
differentiated application services tailored to the needs of
individual customers in a heterogeneous environment," said Henry
Schauer, PolicyXpert product team manager, Hewlett-Packard.
HP and Packeteer will also integrate HP's Smart Internet Usage
(SIU) mediation platform with Packeteer's AppVantage to provide ASPs
with comprehensive application-specific subscriber usage detail. The
rich set of service and performance parameters available from
AppVantage is designed to enable HP SIU to produce Internet Data
Records useful for SLA conformance monitoring, QoS-sensitive usage
billing, and informed capacity planning. As a critical component to
HP's e-services strategy, SIU enables application service providers to
manage next-generation services to drive new revenue streams.

InfoVista -- Packeteer's partnership agreement with InfoVista, a
leading provider of information technology (IT) service level
agreement reporting and analysis solutions, builds on the AppVantage
platform and InfoVista's management and reporting engine, to provide
tailored reports for ASPs.
According to Alain Ries, managing director, business development
and partnerships at InfoVista, "We are pleased to partner with an
industry leader such as Packeteer. Our open product architecture is
the key to provide AppVantage with customized reports -- an esssential
component of a full service ASP offering. Access to the detailed
information of AppVantage will enable InfoVista users to provide
highly relevant, customer and application-specific reports via a
normal web browser."

Portal Software -- Through a technology integration partnership
with Portal, Packeteer has integrated AppVantage with Portal's
Infranet(R) software, a leading customer management and billing
solution designed for the needs of the Internet and emerging
next-generation communications service providers.
"We believe in partnering with companies to develop solutions
that will benefit our customer in this highly competitive market,
Packeteer is clearly addressing the needs of ASPs. The combination of
the broad functionality of Infranet with the rich output of
Packeteer's technology can enable ASPs to provide
application-specific, performance-based billing," said Jill Kyte,
senior director strategic alliances at Portal.

Applications Vendor Support

AppVantage automatically discovers and classifies over 150
different enterprise, messaging, collaboration, and net-based
telephony applications -- including Oracle, Microsoft Exchange,
Microsoft NetMeeting, VoIP, Baan, and many others. Once classified,
QoS and bandwidth-allocation policies protect and control each
distinct application service for each customer. Packeteer's ASP
Initiative has received the support of several additional ASP
applications vendors such as Citrix, the market leader in providing
application delivery platforms; Great Plains, a global provider of
enterprise business solutions for the midmarket; Onyx Software,
provider of the industry-leading customer relationship management
(CRM) software package for mid-market and Fortune 1000 companies; and
SalesLogix, a leading provider of front office and e-commerce
software.
"Front office and e-commerce software products such as those from
SalesLogix are some of the first applications ASPs are deploying to
serve the needs of their enterprise customers. We are working with
Packeteer to ensure that our applications are automatically supported
on the AppVantage platform which will enable ASPs to provide
SalesLogix applications to their customers, quickly, easily, and with
the highest service quality," said Kevin Carson, vice president and
general manager of SalesLogix. "By working with Packeteer, ASP
customers will experience the predictable and consistent performance
they demand."

Enabling New Business Models

Packeteer's ASP Initiative provides the foundation upon which new
services and new business models will be developed. In the future,
Packeteer will further enhance the AppVantage product line through
technology innovations and solution and service partnerships for
application-specific virtual private networks (VPNs), on-demand
applications provisioning, and additional billing, OSS integration and
enhanced reporting features, among others.

The ASP Market

To compete effectively, ASPs must be able to provide
differentiated, affordable and assured services to attract and retain
customers, while reducing the cost basis of services and customer
churn. According to industry research firm, International Data Corp
(IDC), the market for high-end, net-based applications services will
grow at a compound annual rate of 91% to $2 billion by 2003. Forrester
Research estimates that the total application and content hosting
market will grow from $150 million today to $6 billion by 2001.

DSLN moving back up premarket.. now $17 1/4, now 17 1/2.. not sure where it'll open.. but I expect a big run on this one today.. we could definately get over the first target of $20... $25?? this week possibly if market stays favorable.

we'll probably open around $16.. either dip to $14 before moving much higher... or open and run to $18 or $19.. either way.. I doubt seriuosly that whatever DSLN opens at will be the high for the day

almost everything is gapping up premarket... could be a great open!!
