COMPAQ has invented the "tacit warning".

Definition: a tacit warning is deemed to have occurred when, three weeks into a quarter, at a meeting with analysts to discuss financial results, a CEO refuses to give earnings guidance for that quarter.

On RB a poster says that since earnings there have been 13 analyst downgrades (I think he/she means downgrades and lowering of estimates) and one "upgrade".

This seems at odds with the reports of the CC on this board. I got from them that CC was positive in tone. Could all the downgrades be down to the simple fact that MC will not give guidance and this is deemed to be a warning?

Victor--CPQ the bird.

Can't help but remember a goofy song called "The Bird is the Word." Anyone else remember it? It went something like:

The Bird, Bird, Bird
The Bird is the word....
