I'd like to see some more comments on the NX 64000. It appears to me that this product is THE core in LU's next generation network. Since it handles OC192 interfaces directly it appears to eliminate the need for the Cerent box which appears to be necessary if you want to run OC192 over CSCO or Juniper routers.

In fact, I wonder if CSCO's purchase of Cerent is a stop-gap to prevent a forklift solution (in favor of the NX 64000) for those who want to run their networks over OC192 (which should be everybody soon). If the NX 64000 truly has the features described on the website (lowest latency, massive scalability, all important routing software supported), it should eliminate the need for the Cerent box in the future.

I am a computer programmer whose only experience with routers is on LANs connected to the Internet. This stuff is currently a bit over my head and I welcome any credible suggestions to make sense of the dynamics here.

BTW: I was eating at a restaurant the other day and we saw a Porshe Boxter with the license plate "CERENT." I told my wife that this is probably the janitor's car.
