Paul,
Hi!!!

RE: I am back after a well-needed rest from SI. Here are my thoughts (such as they are) concerning Dell.

Welcome back my friend....I can tell you one thing...we all missed ya....
Hope all is well in the family and the rest was rewarding...

DELL is conquering the world...Yes, the prices of components can work in both directions...But if there is one company that has the model to turn on a dime and use their leverage for any concern...it's the company that you amongst many have taught us to trust...and surely the management doesn't hurt our chances...
:o)

Welcome back ...not having posts from Mohan and you has saved me money...My notebook budget is in the black...

Best, Kemble

Hi Chuzz, ..Re:. But, let's not get too euphoric. Dell's model is vulnerable to component price increases.

First of all, welcome back and thank goodness you returned! <g>

Secondly, I'm afraid we are way too euphoric considering the recent developments with DRAM and LCD prices and other problems. There also seems to be extended vision regarding the high-end server market and in particular, competition with SUNW. However, as you can see, SUNW doesn't count Dell as a competitor, (from their 1999 Annual report).

At any rate, any and all comments solidly grounded in reality are welcomed. <g> Glad to hear all is well.

Cheers,

Lee

NEW YORK, Nov 2 (Reuters) - The
lawyers who negotiated a $2.1 billion
settlement from Toshiba Corp.
< >6502.T> over a problem with the
company's notebook personal computers
sued five other PC makers, again
alleging defective products, the Wall
Street Journal said. It said the suits
were filed in federal court in Beaumont,
Texas, and accuse Compaq Computer Corp.
, Hewlett-Packard Co.
, NEC Corp.
Packard Bell-NEC Electronics Inc. and
eMachines Inc. of selling PCs with defective floppy-disk
drives. A similar claim was made in the Toshiba suit.
Compaq said it would defend itself against the suit, calling
it 'completely baseless and without merit,' the Journal
said, while representatives of Hewlett-Packard,
eMachines and Packard-Bell NEC said they had not
seen the suit and declined comment. NEC representatives
could not be reached, the Journal said.
