One problem with GEO sat multicast delivery of these bandwidth-eating, cache-worthy files is once again a limit on bandwidth. The powerful new Ka-band monsters are looking at a throughput right now of 6 Gbps or so. Not enough. ViaSat, a passion of mine, has technology that could double that and more, but is that even enough? By the time the systems are deployed(years), it will definitely not cut it. For reference, a current orbiting Ku/C band sat like Telstar 5 would have a throughput of less than 1 Gbps. We need more!!!
