John,

With respect to the limitations of Real-Audio, that's why I was careful to mention the need for a buffer memory. If you believe bandwidth is going to become huge and very cheap, even that wouldn't be necessary. The point about MP3 is that you can download it at a time and place of your choosing, and listen when you want. Yes, you need the Ercison phone if you suddenly get the urge while in a traffic jam, not to listen to a particular piece of music, but to obtain a permanent record of that piece of music THEN. Having downloaded it wirelessly, at some cost, you can then listen to it at home or in the office while sitting by a cheap landline that is idle.

It seems perverse, but I didn't say it wouldn't happen. It's like driving a four wheel truck to the mall.

I like your idea that flash could supplant floppies if they achieve critical mass, but I do have a "but." If everything is connected wirelessly we shall not need any physical transfer. My PC at work is backed-up automatically through a LAN. I used to use a floppy to take work to and from home, but the internet is easier.

I'm not arguing that Flash isn't going to be big. Just how big.
